Made this image this evening down along our local creek. I tried like heck to get close with my tripod but it just wouldn't work with all that tall teasel around. So as the sun was going down, I put the tripod aside and made these images handheld.
Canon Rebel XT; Sigma 70mm f/2.8 Macro lens; Canon 430 EX with LumiQuest Softbox; handheld

This is really beautiful, Ed. I'd tone down the light spotat the bottom left side and print that baby!

Hey Ed, I really like the comp, and the teasel as the perch. I would clone out the stray stick coming out of his back, and the white blotches as Julie points out. Good details on the critter.

Thanks Julie. Thanks Mike.
First off Mike, why are we always up so early in the morning?!?!? :D
Regarding the "stick"... I puzzled over that for a bit. Its not really a stick or something extra. It is one of those stiff, curly, spiny things that surround the flower "pod" of the teasel. I tried cloning it out and somehow felt it took away from the Teasel-ness. I may try it again though.
Again thanks.
Later Note: OK, I went back and did some cloning. What do you think?

Hey Ed, I'm a early riser, usually up at 5:00am, I think the repost really improved the image. Looks great!!
