Canon EOS 30D, Canon 100-400mm IS @ 400mm plus 1.4x, f8.0, 1/125 sec, ISO 500, tripod, cable release. May 16, 2008, 11:00 am, overcast.

Shot in my perennial garden as the parents made constant trips to the nestlings in the birdhouse.

I like the lighting and the details in the photo. Good colors. Composition-wise, I would crop off some of the left including part of the perch.

Welcome, Henry! You have a pretty bird and nice pose and I agree with Desmond's suggestion.

I like being able to the see back and tail and still have great eye contact. Not a common pose. I would like to see the beak, face and especially the eye selectively highlighted with more contrast and sharpening.

Big Welcome Henry !!!!!!!!!

Agree with comments Particularly like how you gave room for the tail at the bottom !!! Can use very effectively fill flash under this conditions. Overcast and a little fill pair up real nice !!! Tech wise I would probably make the image wide open to minimize the fence and just focus on the eye. Also regarding the cable release it might give you more problems than benefits? I tend to miss action when using but is just a personal choice !!! Excellent and looking forward to more !!!
