This beach bum was taken at Coquina Beach on Longboat Key Florida, July 25, 08 9:25am
Canon 40D, Canon 100-400L @ 300mm
1/500, f/8.0, +.67EV, ISO 200, Eval. Metering

Really like the action you captured in this image Bill but find the light a bit harsh and the whites a tad over exposed. What time of day was this taken ? The composition is good and I the breaking waves in the BG is a lovely bonus. Many thanks for sharing.

Thanks Judy. I wondered why there were no comments. I did some adjustments just before uploading here as it was too big to upload, so I darkened it some trying to help the whites. This was taken around mid morning as I had just received my new 40D and went to the beach to try it out. Took great images but probably stayed too long as you can see by the shadow here. Oh well, I will submit a better one next time. :)

The Willet is suffering from subject motion blur. Looks like 1/500s. was not enough. Definitely use at least ISO 400 for these types of images to give you more shutter speed. You did not need plus EC here - actually you probably needed at least MINUS 1/3 EC. When panning with the 1-4 lens make the IS is set at mode 2, or even off completely.
