I am new to Lightroom and am not sure how to deal with catalogues. Do folks keep all their images in a single large catalog, or do you break them up somehow, e.g.: by years?

If you keep them in one large catalogue, how do you arrange your folders on your hard drives?

Thanks
Ken

Sorry Ken, as I don't use Lightroom I have no suggestions to offer. Some links that might help:

Ken:

You may wish to get the LR video offered for sale at luminous-landscape.com. It is a bit of a pain to download in pieces but it is well done.

Given my general disorganization I will not offer any advice as to catalogues....

Thanks Rocky,

I have already started watching the LL Tutorial but didn't get a handle on categories yet. By the way I learned that when one sets up "Collections" in LR, they cannot span across different catalogues. So it seems like all the RAW images belong in the same catalog so collections and searches can happen.

Ken I don't know if you are using the new 2.0 Version but does have some changes particularly with catalogs.

Also you now see the drives used which is a big deal if you area using several external drives. Have the drive name and under the folders.

For organizing I'm starting over and breaking up the original catalog. I think it had over 30k images and the program was slowing down. Planing on making a series of smaller catalogs.
