The Rainbow Bee-eater nests every year in my region of south-east Australia. A mock set-up was moved in over a period of several days to within approx 18 inches of nest. This was to acheive the desired short flash duration from the rather slow Metz units. Now use only digital - Canon 5D with Canon lenses and flashes.

Bronica ETRsi 645, 70mm lens, Metz 60's flash x2, 1/500sec F16, Fujichrome 100, Shaded bank. Shutter fired remotely by IR transmitter.

Brilliant colours John and good use of flash to make this subject stand out from the dull background. I would suggest a little cropping if you haven't already done so. The bird is almost in the centre of the frame, so try cropping a little from the left.

Welcome, John! Great timing, wing position and setting. On my monitor it looks a bit overflashed. I'm interested what other people think about it. I find the crop a bit tight, particularly top and bottom. Keep them coming.

Timing is spot on as is the sharpness-The food in the beak adds to the image-wonderful

Welcome to BPN! Interesting capture for sure...

18" from nest? Does this bother the birds?

No Jody, by the time I have moved the set-up to the required distance over several days the birds are occasionlly perching on the mock set-up and the actual camera.
