Black-throated Blue Warbler II

I just couldn't resist posting another image of this little beauty. Some folks weren't too fond of the last perch so I'm curious to see what people think about this one? I was trying for something that would work given the usual habitat of these guys - the undergrowth of mixed or deciduous woodlands.

For this image I used 4 flashes - three on the bird and one on the BG (which is an arbutus tree by the way). All flashes were set in ETTL -1.

I would have loved to get a bit more DOF but I didn't dare use any slower Shutter Speed.

I think this looks great. Nice even saturated color, no specular highlights, exposure very nice. tack sharp where needs to be and the BG compliments the bird. This perch works very well, I haven't seen the other image and perch that others are talking about yet. Questions? Did you use any diffusers on your flashes or soft boxes? What model flashes did you use and how close were they? Thanks for any info you provide.

Canon 430EX's and I would say approx 2m from the subject.

Tom, not trying to steal Glenn's thunder here, but you don't need diffusers or soft boxes in these circumstances, although they are always options. With the 430EX (or its big sibling, the 580EX), you can simply set them on manual and dial in whatever strength you like, adjusting by taking exposures of the perch alone until you get them dialed in.

Thanks Glenn and Steve for the info. I am realizing that I need to get flashes that I can manually set. I have been using the Canon 420EX. It's a nice flash, but no ability to manually control the power. Again Glenn very nice image.

For this image I did not use any manual settings.......so 420's would have been fine....you really need manual controls for high speed flash stuff and maybe on your one flash that is your main flash (i.e. a 580).

I just have to tell you what a terrific image it is........those little itchy, twitchy warblers are not easy. Well done....a favorite of your warblers.
