OK, it's actually a Black-and-white Warbler but as most of you know this species' climbing behaviour is quite like the nuthatches. Head down, upside down, clinging to trunks and bark. I remember reading somewhere that early birders actually considered them to be nuthatches! Anyhow, this guy popped up out of nowhere and I had time to fire off two frames...this one, and the second a beautiful empty perch :)

Canon 40D + 100-400L @400mm, 1/320s., f/7.1, ISO 400, -0.7EC, natural light, handheld, sitting inside hide, about 80% full-frame.

Hi Daniel,
Good view of that eye. A somewhat plain bird but quite handsome in his own way. I like the angle of the body pointing into the opening framed by the upper and lower branches.

Love the BG in this one Daniel! Bird is nice and sharp with great eye contact. I'm wondering if the blacks could be a little blacker. Like it a lot!

Evolution is a great thing, new species almost every day. :) I like the pose, details and eye contact. Maybe a bit more room at the top.

I really like this one but the folks above do all make some valid points... Was this a migrant or a local breeder?

Thanks Artie. This is a local breeder. BTW this is the female which is somewhat duller than the bolder and quite striking male.

Dan......Great image and composition. This is a really tough bird to catch in such a nice pose. I like the eye contact, BG and angle of the pose. I saw a bunch of these guys at Crane Creek State Park, OH as they were migrating through. However, I did not get any images as good as this one. Congratulations!
