I was trying to capture them while they hover (briefly) in a single place in air but was unsuccessful. Could never lock focus in time.
I came back with this one...

Techs:
Nikon D300 + Nikkor 105mm VR micro
f/8, 1/640, ISO800, tripod

Looks like you nailed this one, Kaushik. Very sharp, good exposure with detail in all those whites, and a pleasing composition. These little flies make very nice photo subjects. Good luck with the in-flight efforts.

Love the composition here Kaushik. It truly does look like a "bed" of flowers. The insect is so sharp that it almost looks plastic. :) The colors are well controlled. And the background is very nice. f/8 worked very well for you here! Good work, Kaushik.

Beautiful! Really great DOF and the whites are right there...nice and bright! The insect is as sharp as a tack and the BG is smooth as can be. Way to knock it out of the ballpark, Kaushik!

Kaushik, a beautiful image of a syrphid fly--one of your best! Congratulations.

Great job! the white flowers look great and create an interesting "bed" as Ed mentioned.

Good sharpness but the subject looks just very slightly back focused. The rear end is sharper than the nose.

Thank you all :)

@ Robert: Looks to me that u r right w.r.t focusing on the rear. Shall be cautious next time :)

Kaushik, amazing feel in the image and excellent sharpness. Loved the way the whites blend so well with the subject. Class!

I like the way this macro seems to take one right in to the world of this fly, Kaushik! Nice take!
