This image was taken a couple years ago from a kayak during the early evening. The chicks were 4 days old. I like the way that the head angles of the three birds get your eye going in a circular pattern. Though some of the whites may look a bit hot in this presentation, they are not blown. 20D, 300 f/4, 1/1000, f/5.6, ISO 200, cropped for composition. Comments are welcome.

Wow, when I thought I have already seen the best... puf... this OUTSTANDING shot comes along... great, cute, perfect, althought I would have tried a little bit closer crop, just a bit. Congratulations! I love it!

Wonderful light and three stunning head angles. The compositional balance seems off a bit (as per Ramon) but I am not sure if I want a crop from the top and the right or if I would rather have seen the whole adult...

I like everything about this image except for the crop which I find a bit awkward. Here's my suggestion...I have removed some of the empty space top and left - to me placing the head in the TLC felt more balanced this way.

Thanks all for the cropping suggestions. I debated about where to draw the lines. I think Daniel's repost is an improvement.

When these moments come along it can take you by surprise. The wind can blow you one way while the loon swims in the opposite direction. They can dive, the chicks can turn their heads in different directions etc. Sometimes you get what you get. whatever pose or comp you made, enjoy what it is. Many never get to see this first hand like you did. You were blessed. I love this image. Please keep posting your work of these fabulous birds. Thanks for your comments on mine.
