Hello all. I've been lurking for a while but now I have a question. I'll be going to Joe Overstreet landing for the first time in late Sept. early Oct. The setup I'll be taking is a 40D, 70-200mm f2.8 IS, and the 1.4x/2x tcs. I know that this is not necessarily the best setup for bird photography but I'm wondering if it can at least be somewhat productive there. I do have the option of renting a 500 f4 here in Atlanta if I need to. My goal is to primarily shoot birds so would I be wasting my time w/70-200. Also does anyone know if a 500mm can be rented anywhere in central Fl. Thanks for the help.

Hi Maurice,

If you have the chance to rent the 500mm, do so as you are going to need it for sure!. You can use your 70-200mm for landscapes.

Good luck!

Maurice,

You will be severely limited bird-wise with that set-up. But as Maxis mentioned, I have used my 70-200mm for nice landscapes from the road but it is not worth the trip just for that.

Artie has 500mm lenses he rents. He may be able to accommodate you. Send him an email (not PM) or call the BAA number on his website.
