I posted a wings up and now a wings down.... If you image them, they mostly glide so
this took some patience...
Taken in Maui, Hawaii a couple weeks ago.

Nice one Dan, but a couple of things I'm finding distracting: the little yellowy/green section where the top of the legs meet the wing as well as similar sections around the white neck/chest area. Also, the light looks a little harsh, noticeably around the beak and legs. I'd also do a little eye work on those highlights.

Nice wings down pose you managed on this one Dan! I agree the light looks like it was a tad harsh, but you seemed to handle it well. The eye is nice and sharp. I wish you had a bit more DOF though so the wings were also as sharp.

A very nice shot of this bird with the trademark legs in perfect view! The whole bird looks sharp, exposure looks good, focal falloff across the wings is minimal and doesn't bother me. I see the green bit which Paul references but can't fault you for those as they result from the reflection of the water (which is green under these lighting conditions). I didn't get anything of this bird while I was in HI, so I'd be very happy with this.

Congratulations Dan,

everyone's point of view is different :) the sharpness for the photo is very good. The eyes are particularly striking. It is successful for me for the flying photo of this species. For wings, the effect of harsh light can be reduced. It can be softened. It's a pleasure, of course.

Thanks all, as far as the harsh light goes, you all have not been to Hawaii! The sun is straight up at sunrise it seems... This was taken at 8:30 am.

nice one Dan, looks a bit different compared to the continental bird. ideally wings would be all the way down but that's very rare to happen for a stilt... hope you had a good time there. I didn't see any birds in HI besides a some gulls and few small birds.
