I was lying prone on the grass for this image, I did consider raising slightly but every time I moved so did the Jackdaw! I am not convinced I would have had a better view of the feet in any event - only if it went on shorter grass. Not a perfect pose but I liked the image because it showed the Jackdaw intently searching in the grass for food.

Lovely Jon ... with the smooth FG and BG is superb .
Well processed with nice fine details and sharpness .... walking pose is good as is the busy search expression .
Just wish the Jackdaw would have been turned slightly towards the viewer

Bird looks great. More head turn would help. I'd lose some of the top and bottom to yield a traditional 1.5 x 1 crop. I don't see the reason to go square-ish.

Jon:

Intent stare and lifted foot make it for me. Yes, our classic head turn concerns, but I find that if the subject gives the impression that they are fixated on a particular thing, even if it is out of the frame, I think it can still work at times.
Agree about the crop. All the action is in the lower part of the frame, so a "panoish" crop would work well.
