Hi folks one from Austria this May ... 3 days bad weather and Marmots in filthy condition :bugeyed::bugeyed::bugeyed:. Fur looked really awful , not sure if they were moulting or if they had a disease to fight with . I was not able to find it out .... as far as i know , it might have been just mouting time .

Hi Andreas,
Superb low angle and composition. Lovely detail and nice back ground. The shrub adds to the frame. The earth has such incredible biodiversity. Its sad that we are plundering it.
BTW, I was thinking of mirrorless, R5 or R3 to replace my 5D IV. Is it worth it?

Ho Andreas, clean and simple, nicely processed like the habitat. These seem to be very used to folk, mine this year were about 40m away and you had to be completely still, plus I'm not lugging heavy kit around in this region, so will see what happens next year. Clean BKG which helps to give standout, nice one.

Sanjeev I now have both, sadly not much trade in on the 5D4, but....

If you have great light constantly then think about the R5MK2 that will be coming out, if light can be of a premium then the R3 is awesome, or if budget dictates perhaps the R6MK2? Either way you will need an RF converter so you can attach your EF lens. Setting up the 'R' cameras do take time to set up correctly, especially with having things displayed in the EVF, or how you set up your Back button focus and activating animal eye....

Canon are doing some promotional deals currently :S3:

THanks Sanjeev and Steve for your kind comments , much appreciated .

@ Steve ... they are indeed used to folk , sometimes too much :bg3:. But sometimes they do leave me puzzled behind .... all of a sudden they do react skittish :eek3:.

Hi Sanjeev .... i did not regret the partial move to mirrorless , as i do still use my 1Dx . But mostly as the second body ... my GoTo camera is the R3 . It is a real killer camera ... with some minor flaws , but which camera is 100 % perfect ??? And in some cases it will be the operator who does make the mistakes .... LOL .
Canīt say a lot about the R5 ... just had a bunch of raw files to play with , but was never really happy with the performace of the files . So i waited for the R3 to enter the market and ordered mine . As said i did not regret it ... it is completly different " world of shooting " , i do get way more keepers because the AF is working better and i do have the advantage of the view finder !!! But one has to get used to the world of mirrorless ...

Good luck when you make a decision

Cheers Andreas

I have to start around 2000m Andreas, then hike between 2-3km and get off the main drag, you hear them whistling, but it sometime echoes, so it takes a few mins to find them. Few folk do this hike so the Marmots tend not to be too welcoming, so it takes around 20-30 mins to get to some vantage point. If I do go next year I'll pack my Ghille blanket just to throw over me, just to break up the outline then hopefully get closer, but will take the R3 & 100-500.:S3:

Very nice image and well presented Andreas, love the composition here and the FG with all the vegetation certainly adds to the image.

Good pose from the Marmot, great POV, nice colours. BG looks great. Well exposed with nice detail and colours, I like it a lot:S3:

Kind regards,
