Harris's Hawk from our raptor time in S Texas.

These guys ruled the roost, so to speak, in comparison with the Caracaras as they competed for position on the trees. They sure are a handsome species of Hawk IMO.

RF 100-500 @ 400mm
Handheld - taken from blind
ISO 6400

LR and PS. Added some right and evicted a couple odd blotches in the bkg.

Super shot, wonderful action and colour. I bet you wrestled with composition here, whether to move the bird more or less to the left/right.

Beautiful image Brian well done I thought maybe to the left some . Ok as is too love the background colors makes the subject pop more. Details well done. As I have had a few of these in my hand on a glove. Just a great composition. TFS

Agree with comments above. I wouldn't change a single thing. You are at 6400 iso, at a lowish s/s , and blue sky behind the trees .Were you and the bird in dark shadow? whatever it was you got a brilliant result

Contrast and colours look really good. Talk about a feisty-looking bird too. I like the patterned BG. I only would have liked for the hawk to perch a little higher (or lower) to prevent the perch's knob to not obscure the front talon so much, but boy I'd be way more than happy to have this. Good call adding to the right.

Thank you all.

Yes, the composition was a bit back-and-forth. I had originally selected a vertical but this probably works better.

Kevin, we were actually shooting at sun up through a thin cloud layer. The background (sky above) was actually more well lit than the setting you see here.
