$4000 each - that’s how much Delta paid Sonia and me (and 18 others) to deplane after a two-hour, at-gate delay last night. Somehow they miscalculated the weight-to-fuel ratio for our flight from Atlanta to Johannesburg — presumably by taking on too much cargo — and there isn’t any leeway on the 16-hour, trans-oceanic route. So, we sacrificed one day of forty in return for $8000 in cash cards and a free night in a fancy hotel. We have guaranteed seats and boarding passes for tonight’s flight. Not the start we envisioned, but we’ll take it!

Anyway, he's my favorite shot from my recent Newfoundland trip. I'm usually on top of my subjects, so it was really nice to back off in this instance!

Dorian:

Sorry about the travel issue, but probably a net plus for the pocket book.

I appreciate the subject small in frame shot. It really illustrates their environment, between the far horizon, tall, steep cliffs, scraggly vegetation.

Framing very effective to help tell the story.

Safe travels.

hi dorian .... lucky dude , financially speaking , here in Europe we do not get that much of money if things happening like in your case . good luck on your trip !!!

very nice shot of the puffins showing their environment nicely .
all does look good to me in terms of comp , framing , detail , sharpness and overall color .
personally I would try to edit the land differently in terms of color , think the green / yellow color can go nicer with extraction different hues in that that color range . but this is just a matter of taste .

cool shot and tfs Andreas

Pleasing shot, I too think the colours are not quite there - sort of slight yellow feel about everything.

Fun times travelling eh! I think I'll wait it out a bit lol, although the reward you got was quite a good one.

I love the image, everything about it except for one thing...that is the horizon line skimming across the top of the rock. Not an image wrecker by any means but wish you would have had the chance to get a foot higher. The clouds look awesome (as does the whole habitat really), and those puffins are placed just right.

Hi Dorian, love the image, I think too often we go tight to show the bird and feather detail when a wider prospective would work better. Nice to see the cliff and the habitat. Thank you for sharing.

looks like the delay worked out well, I am impressed airline paid anything, I have never got anything for the delays, except for a petty meal/rental voucher which I immediately tossed! now you can easily switch to Sony :w3

nice photo, I like that this one is showing the environment and the habitat gives a sense of where they live
