Another on my my Colorado chicken/grouse mid-April. This guy wandered a bit closer than the other males at the lek. Glad he decided to squawk at me!

Dorian love this . I have some but I don't think with this beautiful of a background color. You really nailed this fantastic sharpness and detail. On a personal note I like shooting chickens better than sharptails. They are more aerial and give a tell. Sharptails don't really fly as much. I also think the colors are better on chickens. TFS

Awesome portrait Dorian! Love the open beak and squawking pose. Detail looks great, so does the BG and light. Nice work!

Hi Dorian, a nice, tight and very colourful portrait.

A tweak of some Blend modes adjustments adds some depth to both the comb and exposed neck (?) creating a bit more depth & form. If you were side on perhaps the lower part of the beak would have been more isolated????

Thank you all for the kind comments. This was not a headshot I expected to capture, so I was thrilled with this result. Cheers!

Just who was in who's face? Ditto all the positive comments above. If you twisted my arm I would say that the lower mandible is a bit lost in the feathers of the neck. Anyhoo, I wish it were mine :)

This is fantastic Dorian. Even the chicken is reacting to its own portrait!
