It had been a couple of years since I'd seen and photographed this species, so it was a joy for me to encounter two of them (on separate days, in separate locations) this fall. This one was photographed near a boat launch along the river, and when one boat made its approach for landing, the plover walked away form the shore and crossed some rather appealing habitat along the way. As you can see, this was on solid rocky ground, therefore I was about the driest and cleanest I could be for crawling along for shorebirds!

Canon 7DII + 500mm f/4 II + 1.4TC III, manual exposure, evaluative metering, 1/1600s., f/5.6, ISO 400, natural light, handheld, small crop to help the comp, contrast and saturation to taste.

I love it. One of my favorite shorebirds in an environment to die for. Great pose, light, exposure etc.

It does not get much sweeter than this. The strutting pose is killer. Seeing the feet of a shorebird is a rare plus!

with love, artie

Daniel, a real gem here. The setting and balance of composition are great but the colors in the bkg put it over the top.

Love the rocks underfoot and glad we can see both of them. Light looks a bit steep but you handled the shadows nicely in post.

Well seen, tfs!
