I took yesterday morning off of writing with the goal of upping my Whimbrel game since they're migrating through right now.

My arms are tired after crawling around with my heavy *** rig for two hours! Not sure anyone on this board is using anything heavier right now.

Bird came hella close, so I added a bit of canvas at right, left, and below. Diffuse white in BG is a distantly-breaking wave.

Canon 600mm f/4 IS II + 1.4x III on EOS 1D Mark II
1/3200 at f/5.6, ISO 1250
Processed in LR CC after canvas adjustments in PS. No Topaz this time.

How sweet Dorian. Just wish it were mine Great colors and soft light. Nothing to pick on here for sure. TFS.

Dorian:

Simple, clean, great point of view which combined with the long focal length gives great subject isolation. I might have traded a bit of shutter speed for one more f/stop, but surely can't complain about the result. Perhaps you were doing flying birds at the same time?

Glad you had a productive break!

Can't get much better than this. Exposure and focus on the bird, excellent-- then the absolute softness of everything else, beautiful image.

Gorgeous frame Dorian.
Love the low POV, the soft blues and the pose. Perfect HA. No nits from me.
I too am still working with heavy rigs although my 600 v.3 is 2 pounds lighter than your 600mm v.2. "What doesn't kill you, will make you stronger!":bg3:

I thought you bought R5? That's a weight reduction versus DX, right?

What a beauty. Really like how the foreground and background melt together. Nice one.

Yea, the weight of the wallet is the problem there (i.e. not heavy enough)....

And I wouldn't buy another EF lens when the RF teles are in the works. I'm just
sitting tight for now. R5 would be nice, but I'm just not sure I want to keep pushing
money into Canon at this moment. And that brings me back to the wallet; I couldn't
switch brands if I wanted to.......

That's pretty sweet man, I don't know how you could improve on this really. Pretty envious of it!
