Hand held using ProCapture Low, I am sure some will be thinking why on earth didn't I homogenise the background a little more. I didn't because I think this looks authentic, if it was all silky smooth it would not be natural, I would have had to cut down the background grasses to get that effect. I am sure you still disagree but that's fine we all have our preferences.

Jon:

Very accurate focus on the head, shallow depth of field blurs the rest of the body quite quickly. The background is fine for me.

In a perfect world, the bill wouldn't overlap the wing, would help it stand out more.

Framing works well with his head angle.

Like the one foot already off the perch, real sense of action taking place.

Hi Jonathan. Lovely action shot, and I agree with your BG "philosophy"...providing it's not too busy/distracting. I could see a vertical crop here to reduce the "dead" space, but it's not a deal breaker here. TFS

Hi Jon .... nicely timed action , difficult to achieve I think .
Color and Tones are looking good to me , as does the BG .
Personally not so impressed by the boxy crop .... but might be just me .
