Hi folks ,
still on the Falklands but on another island . The Cormorant shot was taken in harsh late morning light on Sea Lion Island .... sadly during these cruises one cannot choose the time of shooting . Just take what you can get ..... even in harsh light .... and try to get the most out of it .

Canon EOS 1D MKIV
EF 500 IS L
Tripod

F 5,6 ; Iso 400 ; 1/3200 ..... well SS way to high for the static subject

Processed with C1 and PSCC 2021 ; slightly cropped

Thanks for watching and commenting to my previous posting

Cheers Andreas

I agree with Jon, great job handling the light and I really like the open beak. Nice work!

You did well considering the situation you were faced. I still wish the subject would have turned its head towards us by a few degrees - that would have given better connection with the viewer, and would also perhaps have lit the chin. Techs themselves are perfect with good exposure and excellent sharpness. Open bill is a bonus!

Except for HA, sweet perfection and what a subject... TFS

Lovely portrait. Even though your settings are a bit wonky, you got enough DOF at 5.6 to cover the bill!
Just wish for a better HA,
Gail

Andreas, gorgeous species capture well. The light was very much your friend here and you showed off your processing skills once again.

Superb colors and details. Works nicely for me against the blue water bkg.

I actually think the head angle is fine, but perhaps if you got him to look back at you it could make the frame that much better.

Wonderful view of this bird! Lighting and details are great, but the disengaged head angle makes this tough for me, even with the beautiful blue eye ring. Headshots more than any other need that direct eye contact to connect.

What a crazy looking set up this bird has going on! Love the eye ring, yellow coral and composition. Head angle is what it is. Nice image Andreas.
