This individual decided to perch on top of the snow "cloud" while waiting for its turn at the seeds. It's really fun to have these guys back in good numbers this winter after a few meager years.

Canon 7DII + 500mm f/4 II + 1.4TC III, manual exposure, evaluative metering, 1/640s., f/5.6, ISO 800, natural light, handheld, FF, selectively used "highlights/shadows" to recover the whites on the snow, eye work, minor bill clean up.

What a perfect landing spot... The perch, the snow, both accumulated and falling, the details and framing, all spot on. TFS

Gorgeous on all accounts Daniel.

Great pose, love that it's perched on the snow on top of the perch, don't see that too often. The red head and buff chest pop nicely here and the snow effect adds great interest.

Well done.

The falling snow just adds so much to the scene setting/atmosphere here Dan. Perhaps lighten the log a tad? Is that a ring on the leg?

Hi Daniel ... really cool image .
The snowy/icy perch is making the difference for me , for sure in combo with the falling snow .
Super colors in the subject !!!

Is there some haloing going on around the icy perch ? From the S/H command in PS ??? Or is the darker area just something OOF ....??

TFS Andreas

Perfect Redpoll setting, not to mention the colors, falling snow, details and pose. Another bit of Cadieux artistry.

Bet you were happy the bird perched atop that little snow mound. Everything looks bang on from my viewpoint.
