Jon:

Classic woodpecker capture, with bonus of tongue out! I like the display of the grip, prop tail, soft background.

I would add a bit more canvas on the left, and a tiny bit on the right. The broken off branch is an interesting component, and competes just a bit for the bird with our attention. If there was more room around it, it would be less dominant.

Cheers

Good point Randy, it hadn't occurred to me ...but now you said it.

A very clean and visually rich, in tones within this image Jon, blacks are bang on, with a nice depth, but still retaining detail. Whites too, like the varying shades of whites & creams. I might loose a fraction off the top with the hole and suet pellet showing, perhaps on the bulbous black nodule too, very easy so you just see the darks. At 1/500 good to see a clean and sharp tongue, they do move so fast. Not sure if the image needs a tad more to the left or right, just feel its a little tight, albeit FF as we discussed.

Hi Jon ... you nailed this one !!!
Looks great on most counts , the tongue is making the difference !!!

In an ideal world , I would have liked a different framing .... I personally find the knob on the RHS really not nice !!!
Color , tones and detail .... really good !!

Classic woodpecker frame. I like the kickstand tail. Love the tongue of course. Nice one.

Stunning shot! I'm fine with the framing, but can see how others would like more canvas. Would love to see a Woodpecker one day!
