Now that's an interesting pov Dan. Lovely detail and colours. I really like the "wispy" water in the FG too. Exposure looks spot on to me. I was wondering about using a 1.4 converter...looks like it works well for ststic subjects. What's your opinion for bif? (focal length with the D500/500PF and 1.4x would be 1050mm?)

Paul, it cost $500 in US, well worth it for the extra focal length.
700mm that weighs nothing on a crop sensor camera.
For static subjects I like it a lot. Not just the length but the F8 DOF.
Same for flight. In F8 light (pretty good) it just takes some skill, the D500 autofocuses at F8.

Dan:

Fun pose, vertical framing good, water is interesting, well exposed.

I find the image a bit soft, esp. on the breast and his right eye, bit better on left eye and wing.

I could see even a sliver more room above because of his dramatic direction of gaze.

Cheers

Randy

Great pose. What was it looking at? I would not mind seeing a version with the exposure pulled down a bit as the sunlit front of the bird looks a bit washed out to me.

with love, artie

Hi Dan, interesting pose on this Green Heron. I agree with Artie that maybe the front of the bird is washed out a tad. One could sure come up with some interesting captions for this image. Thank you for sharing.

I'm late to this one, so I will just add way cool pose... TFS

Pose is priceless - particularly with the differentially-dilated but the overall IQ isn't quite there; it's just not as sharp as a lot of your other shots. The water behind is super. I think the frame could be
warmed up a bit as well. Seems blue/cold as is. Still looking for a good shot on a branch like this for my collection. Not gonna happen around here!
