This species was my primary target on my Sunday outing. Despite seeing them with some regularity while I'm birding,
I'd had only one photographic crack at this species before this encounter, in Massachusetts in 2013. This will be the first
in a series of this bird.

This looks like a very clean and colorful juvenile.

Canon 600mm f/4 IS II + 1.4x III on EOS 1DX2
1/1600 at f/6.3, ISO 1250
Processed in LR CC. Cloned out a few small irregularities in fore- and background.

Dorian, looks like a great frame! Subject is sharp throughout, I love the contrast, nice details in the whites. A little mud on the beak adds to the image IMO.

TFS, look forward to more!

Yepper, looks like a Dorian special. Nice low POV, beautiful details and nice smooth BG. TFS

Mud on bill and leg...

Beautiful Colors and nice pose. Minor point is feet, but this kind of shots its not possible I guesss.

I was trying to photograph this species in Sand Hollow, UT was not successful (Very Skittish).

A beautiful frame with great pose and POV. That warm light really shows off his colors to perfection. I could also see a version with a little taken off the bottom.

I wish on this one you raised up enough to get the feet....

Sadly, there was no raising up and out of that mud! I just had to let my elbows sink into it. Getting to a kneeling position would have flushed the bird. I have a few other shots of the walking bird which show the feet, stay tuned.

Lovely frame.
All is excellent except I do miss the feet.
I really like that strip of blue in the middle of the frame.

Spot on all around. The low angle and pose/framing are right on.
