Though this is the least exciting of my recent trifecta of shorebird frames, it represents the best frame I've captured of this species. Baird's Sandpipers nest in the Arctic and migrate to the neotropics through the Great Plains. Juveniles make occasional deviations to the coast, and this individual offered the first decent photographic opportunity I've had among my ~dozen West Coast intersections.

The species can be identified by its black legs, buffy breast, beautifully scalloped back pattern, and hella long wings, the primaries extending well beyond the tail tip.

I would have liked a raised foot or some other touch of action, but this is what he gave me before flying off. It was a long, elbow shredding crawl to this point with my heavy-*** rig in hand!

Nothing wrong with this. Not too simple at all. Glad you got a best of species frame. Aloe Vera... great for those elbows :) TFS.

A beauty of a shot, of a species that is rare around here and that I have yet to photograph. (My wishful post of last week has been ID'd as a probable juvenile Semipalmated SP.) Perfect light, pose, POV.

Sweet shot Dorian, tame those elbows with some TLC my friend, easy to get infection big time, ask Gail, yikes.... These fresh feathers are gorgeous and the bird just pops against the multi tones of blue. Congrats on this top prize for you!

Hard work paid off here Dorian. Nothing a band-aid or two can't heal ;-)

Super nice exposure, beautiful pov and I like this measure of fg much better than a couple ago.

Your shots are so clean and minimalistic usually I'd be tempted to suggest cloning the green-beige globs below but I think it adds a bit of interest personally and ties into the colors on the subject well.

Another Dorian masterpiece! What a lovely shot of this beauty. Great pose, HA, BG, love the framing, detail and sharpness. It's a lesson in getting a low POV. TFS

Bill, It is not a probable SESA. It is a juvenile Semipalmated Sandpiper. No doubt

Quite nice. The low angle is great. Love the pose and that blue.
