you are coming up with some nice and creative perches for sure. good display of the habitat, I like the alert pose and the tail. I think the bird an benefit from more sharpening if it doesn't become too grainy. I might get rid of the very last offshoot all the way to the left.

I love this one!
The placement of the bird is perfect and I love the environment shown.
Beautiful light and color palette. Perky pose is perfect!
I am on my laptop but bird looks good to me re: sharpening,

Hi Brian, like the subject being off set and the perch. The subject is soft and I think you could add a bit more pop to the environment. Why not up the ISO to say 2-2500 to gain a bit more SS?

Gail and Ari, thank you. Glad you like it.

Steve - not an option. I took this from the same position as the last BGG I posted which was in morning light. This little guy perched off to my right in the shadows and the only option was to reduce shutter speed as far as getting a quick capture. One shot and he fled; they are quick. There is a tiny bit of motion blur and I really can't sharpen any further without adding graininess but I felt it was sufficient with the surrounding environment and the beauty that came with it. Maybe I am wrong.

gnatcatchers must be on speed, one of the most frenetic lil tykes in the birdy world. Very nice pose and "stop" with terrific BG. Yes a bit more sharpening, that was the first thing that popped up for me, easy fix... Sweet!

Thanks for commenting Ann, you are so right. They are frenetic to the hilt!

I really like the composition and the pose of the bird, my initial reaction was that the bird was not quite sharp enough.

Brian, if the raw isn't pin sharp then it's a record shot in my book and hopefully in time there will be more/better opportunities where light, SS & f-stop are far more on your side. At the end of the day, as you say, there is a limit to how far you can go and irrespective of current software and also none of us being Harry Potter, nothing will bring back a soft image. In addition, with say the D850, R5 or Sony, a raw converted file size after exporting is around 200mb before you start to tinker with PS and so storage also comes into play as an additional factor. :S3:

I love it! Yes, it may be a touch soft, but looks great anyway and perfectly captures this species' essence and quirky personality. Great perch and overall setting too. Now you gotta get a male in breeding plumage with the blue tinge to it!

Hey Wesley,

Fabulous. The best of this species so far. The tail is mega! And so is the BKGR. Bad luck having the leaves come out of the mid-back, but still a killer frame.

Daniel, thanks so much. I have several of this species and I'll have to look more closely to see if I can ID a male.

These little guys can be tough to photo, so you've done really well here. The direct stare is great, and the cocked tail shows his personality perfectly. Perch is interesting. Bird is nice and sharp. Background is really cool, even if a bit busy compared to those I generally seek (but I'm kinda uncreative in that respect). Composition is nice. Wide-ish crop was wise.
