On my bike ride home, spotted this now free MOM, with chick just fully fledged. It was about 15 minutes after sunset and the same time to being fully dark. I ran ahead and sat about two meters from water's edge on the steep bank of this lake. As it was quickly getting dark, right at water level not an option (gators completely disappear in dark water). The water was reflecting the dim after sunset sky. Watched as Mom brought up three mussels, ate them and then hopped on a big cypress knee to preen before bedtime. This was the third and final mussel she is bringing to shore for final meal of the day.
