Nicw you caught the bird out in the open. Yes a better head angle would have helped this one. But thats the way she goes sometimes. The inch worm is neat.

Geoffrey, I think John is right here - the head angle is the big issue. Lots of good things though like food in the mouth and neat perch.

There is also a pretty significant halo around the beak. Perhaps something when you masked the bird or in a sharpening/denoise process?

The HA is so little but means so much...Geoffrey. very well done on this one. The DOF is perfect, looks almost 3D here...Fab detail on the bird...Lookin good.

Thanks Brian. Thank you for pointing out the halo around the beak. Prompted me to examine the entire bird and found slight halo around the elbows. I think you are correct in the diagnosis. Here is a repost.

I kind of like the profile pose in the direction of the nest.

Hi Geoff, I am going to be the odd man out here. I don't really see a problem with the HA, yes, the bird is facing slightly away but the head is slightly angle toward the viewer. The worm is a big plus, nice colors, the repost fixes the halo. Thank you for sharing.,

Joe, I believe you can tell by the catchlight the angle of the head; at least it makes sense that way from a physics standpoint and the light here is toward the rear of the eye meaning it's pointing away.

Very Nice setting. Interesting pose. A little bit more details in the blacks would have been good.
I like the worm in the beak, wish for better head angle.

Green colors in the image is nice. I could clone out the white blob at the lower left side.

I really like this image, I agree in lifting the blacks in the bird's head feathers. Looking at the image I wonder if it would enhance presentation by selecting the bird and foreground vegetation then inverting and lowering the exposure slightly.

Hi Guys, I don't know zip about physics and Geoff is of course free to like the image or not. From where I sit, the head is turned away from the viewer and this lessens the impact dramatically. For me ,such images are insta-deletes, and I have gotten rid of some otherwise killer stuff for want of a better head angle.
