Another skimmer frame. this one was taken towards the end of the day when light was a bit softer, the marshes in the BG created the gold colors


shot with sony A9 MKII 600 GM + 2X TC (1200mm) . f/8 1/3200sec ISO-1600. hand held and processed with C1P. I hope you like it

Killer! Perfect exposure and the look is great. Can't beat end of day light like this. I assume this is from the bottom of the bay? I need to make it down there.

thanks Paul, Nikon does not have a usable 2X TC so it could not take this shot at this location. It would also not be able to track focus on 50% of these as well.

Very nice Arash, could it do with a sliver more at the foot, personal preference? Personally I would loose the blue in the rear wing, but thats me, although I think you can get some more definition within the wings. Love the rich backdrop, very complimentary.

Thanks Steve, I went and scanned the far wing and there is absolutely no blue in the rear wing whatsoever, no idea what you are seeing maybe an illusion , (see RGB below) taken on that area. If monitor and profile is set right should look perfect to a tee. I am also not sure what you mean by more definition either but hey thanks for the comments hope you are doing well and stay safe

Hi Arash, but 'visually' the OP carries more to me than the Raw, perhaps it is an illusion, but reducing the Blue in saturation, personally I do see a difference. :w3

Extracting more, I just lifted the Blacks & Contrast minimal via a tonal curve, and so to my eyes again, there is more 'clarity or definition' within the plumage??? Subtle yes, but as you know a subtle tweak can make or break an image.

Arash, you post some exceptional images and many, if not ALL aspire tp your skill and regularly we all can learn from you and others.

Finally, yes all good here across the pond, just gearing up to celebrate my father in laws 99th birthday on Friday and yet he appears to be 60 going strong and firing on all four cylinders or is that six now!!! I envy you having all this with good light, the closest I will get is Africa, but that might be in two years time after all this has been all sorted and we have a vaccination. Should have been returning back from the Galapagos now, oh well.

Hey Steve thanks! I still don't understand what you mean by "'visually' the OP carries more to me than the Raw," where do you see the RAW? the RGB is the absolute measure and doesn't show any B channel bias so I have no idea... I didn't check the small shaded triangle, honestly too small for me to spend time on :)

As for the repost thanks for taking the time but unfortunately problem is that it doesn't look like a black skimmer to me anymore, whites are grey and blacks are washed out, I guess you guys are out of luck to have and get used to this kind of light across the pond :) I find that European photographers who haven't spent time on lower west coast USA think images are too saturated or the sky is too blue/bright likely because they have rarely seen it like this.

Or perhaps I could persuade you to come to Africa to photograph some new species and perhaps even some Wildlife too? Depending on the season there could even be the Greater, or Lesser spotted Bowie, an elusive species, but great fun. :bg3:
