Nicely detailed and exposed, the blacks on the head possibly a little dense?. I think a landscape presentation would have been good with the tern looking into more space, I presume the crop was this shape due to distracting elements on the RHS?

I like the pose on the little 'island', beautiful handling of the whites. The blacks on the front of the crown are quite dark, 0 in some places, so I agree with Jon about opening them up just a bit. Shows well as is, but perhaps a sliver more detail available.

Also agree that a bit more space on the right would play well with the gaze angle.

Nice tern image, with a very clean feel. Whites look perfect, blacks could be a touch brighter but not much needed. The lower of the two catchlights could be removed. The main issue (IMO) is the head angle. Although it is parallel to the sensor it needed to be more towards us with that particular body angle (or having the tail-end of the body turned more towards us as another option had it been offered). I too love the perch - very nice.

I have to agree with Daniel's critique 100%.
The light is fine- just wish that the bird had been more parallel to the sensor.
I would also take some off the top and add a bit more canvas on the right.
