I have been having a blast photographing warblers this past week. Talk about extreme photography! They are so small and fast and never sit still.
Throw in a million black flies, 2 falls as I tripped over tree roots and sunburn on the forearms and you get the idea!:bg3:
Shot on a cloudy day. Not a set-up.
Canon 1 Dx3 600mm v3, 1.4 x v. 3
ISO 1600 1/800 @5.6
Nothing added or cloned. Cropped to 8.5 x 11.I have no more room top or bottom.
Usual sliders in LR, Topaz Denoise on BG only, toned sown the brightness of the leaves with luminosity mask and sharpened JPEG. No added saturation.

Great pose this beauty gave you, Gail. Like the way he is giving you an underbelly view, and you couldn't ask for a better head turn. Excellent perch and beautiful background. Tripping and over exposed skin paid off.

Your challenging hunt certainly paid off Gail.

I don't have much to offer other than I'm a bit torn about leaving the fine feather on the head or evicting. I see arguments for both, however with such a creamy bkg and this being an in-nature shot, probably would go 60/40 toward evicting. Hardly noticeable at the end of the day though.

I envy you. I love shooting warblers, even if they are the ultimate, most frustrating challenge. This is very nice, with great pose, lovely light and early spring green foliage. The smooth multi-colored BG is beautiful. The slightly steep angle gives a good view of his markings.

We did not have a good migration in Princeton this year, and with travel restrictions I was not able to go to places like Magee Marsh or Point Pelee which could have offered more. We had one good fallout day, but only after the trees had fully leafed out, and the little devils could be heard but not seen. Two days ago I did finally manage my first-ever ID shot of a Kentucky warbler, a rarity in Princeton; but nothing I would post to BPN.

Hi Gail. Lovely to see your photos as always. This is a beauty. I must admit though the lighting/contrast looks a little harsh to me, especially around the top of the head/beak area, but that's just me. Looks like you're enjoying your new gear! (I'd remove the stray feather on the head)
