I hope some of you will post for the theme.
I took this in Iceland last year. Dark and cloudy day.
I know that most will find the BG too distracting but I like the grasses and the starburst pattern.
My favorite images are never my "best" images.
Canon 1 DX, 600mm and 1.4 x converter. Taken while sitting in pond with waders on and covered by my "quik camo" sheet
ISO 1600 SS 1/2000 F 5.0
This is almost FF.
Nothing added or cloned.
Comments and critiques always appreciated and learned from with thanks,
Gail

Gail:

I like the bird's pose, action, splashing. The bg is a bit distracting. Lowering the luminosity of the background might help to make it recede a bit more visually. Just an option.

Cheers

Randy

Splish Splash. Great bathing action. I like Randy's RP.

Thanks Randy. I agree that it looks a lot better. Duh...I should have seen that for myself!

Love this one Gail. Such a great pose and the action is great. I don't mind the BG, but I do like Randy's RP. These birds are so beautiful. I'd be thrilled with this frame. TFS

The splashing is great. Low angle is right on. Nice how you can make out the grasses in the background.

I can totally relate on your favorites not being your best. I have lots of those too!! A fun frame for sure. This individual was perfectly angled towards you.

I like it Gail not so concerned with the background as the water droplets take away from the grasses, Bird looks great and sharp. TFS

I like the OP, the BG is nice I think, I saw them in Iceland in ponds just like this.
Fun pose, I think Randys is too dark.

Good behavioral and habitat scene. My first reaction was that the face and head were a bit dull.
A bit of dodging there would help perhaps.

Yeah, the BG isn't perfect, but the low angle and splash really make this shot. It has a truly natural feel to it, and the bird is giving you a great look. Phalaropes are wonderful. I see them on the ocean all the time during the non-breeding months.
