John:

I like the perch, water covered rock with bits of green. Nice angle of bird in frame. To my eye, the bird is just slightly over sharpened , with some feathers looking a bit 'crunchy'. A bit more DOF if possible would hav been nice, esp. enough to render the foot sharp. I am OK with the tail being out of focus. Well exposed. Background works well.

Cheers

Nice light on this guy, and good HA. Classic Barnegat shot. I love to watch them rush in for morsels just after a wave crashes on the rocks. Ditto Randy's comments about sharpening and DOF.

Very nice to see all that FF detail
Have to agree 100% with Randy on this image.
Higher ISO would have gotten you to F8 which would have gotten the foot in the DOF but not the tail.
I would clone out that second catchlight but not a deal breaker.

Hi John, a bird I have yet to photograph, so nice to see. I agree with Randy's comments. Thank you for sharing.

John the bird is well focused and sharp, as a consequence the shallow DOF is exemplified, I would suggest at hat magnification f11 would have been more appropriate. i would lower sharpening a tad and contrast, possibly highlights too, I think then more detail would become apparent.

I love the hint of "purple" sheen on the back. Perfect head angle. Borderline too big in the frame, but still in the OK range.
