Rough day at Nickerson Beach, Long Island NY

Been a while since I posted one here. Finally had a day to myself yesterday and grabbed my gear and went to photograph the skimmers at Nickerson Beach here on LI. These 2 Terns went at itin a really brutal battle. The one on the ground came inand went towards the chicks and the other pecked at him until he flew away. The wing is actually in the beak of the 2nd bird. I made a few images, nothing to write home about but very cool behavior.

Nikon D3, 600VR, x1.7, ISo 400, 1/1250, f8, Gitzo 3530LSV, Wimberley Head
(for the D3 shooters, used 51pt AF and new firmware V2.0 installed)

Love the intensity George !!! That would be one area I would work hard You know how well you can do with bird interaction in some Places :)

Imagine you would have to make a ton just to have all the little blades of grass were you want them but worth the effort !!!!

Love the whole feeling of this image George and the interaction is wonderful. This is an image that I could look at for a long time as I find it very beautiful including the surrounding environment and the superb interaction between the terns. Love it !!!

I like the behavior and action captured here. They are oversharpened though..

As you said, almost the same instant. We have to stop standing shoulder to shoulder!!!! This does seem a bit over sharpened. Perhaps you processed it in haste as that is not a common mistake for you.????

Hey Jody and Joe...thanks for the heads up on that, never noticed it. I probably hit the sharpen thing twice as many times as I should have. Doh!!!
