I watched as this white-tailed kite devoured the vole it had caught. You can see the almost intact head going down in one bite. The image was made with almost no light left.

Arash:

Perfect timing on the gulp! Soft light(what there was of it!), great eye, pleasing perch. Nice comp.

Cheers

Pretty graphic but what great light, action and perch.
What is the round thing on the tree below the kite? At first I thought it was an expelled pellet falling to the ground but that can't be.

Good shot Arash, nature is red in tooth and claw, what happened to the voles' nose - first bite I guess!
Great job on the white plumage - impressive image well done!

Fantastic image, great timing with the unfortunate vole. How I wish for our last light to enable those settings!

Thanks Gail the round thing is a pine fruit.

Great capture Arash, love the low light and great composition. Nice to see perched on the evergreen something different than the regular snag. The round looking fruit is actually Cedar apple rust or a gall type of fungus.

Thanks Kevin, makes sense upon closer look this was a juniper tree so must be some kind of fungus (the balls are very hard and dry) but it is very common in this area...

Sweet action captured. Love the light and perch and of course the prey. Tough out there to be a vole or field mouse. TFS
