Ventured out to a local grassland preserve yesterday afternoon for the first time after the Park Commission had conducted a prescribed controlled burn of specific parts of the grassland several days ago. There was a female Northern Harrier, flock of American Robins, Song Sparrows, and a group of about ten American Tree Sparrows. All of which were dining in the burned area on the ground. Captured this American Tree Sparrow in the late afternoon. C&C welcome.

Great find. Nicely captured against a simple background. Although the tail is partly obscured, the twisty vine adds some interest to the perch. Also interesting to note the black feet, presumably from feeding in the burnt area.

Thanks Bill. You might think that was the case, but black feet is a distinct natural color for the ATSP.

Hi Geoff,
I like the BG- nice and clean but this image doesn't seem to be tack sharp.
It looks like the nictitating membrane is over the eye. HA not great and the tail is obscured.
Not feeling the love with this one:e3,
Gail

Hi Gail,

Thanks. I like the BG also. Nictitating membrane is not over the eye. A reflection of the overcast sky is in the upper part of the eye which could be lightened a bit. Perhaps the body could use a tad more sharpening.

I love these winter visitors. Quite a hardy sparrow! I like that you went vertical here. Good BG. The head angling away is unfortunate. I do wish the perch consisted only of the twisted duo. Nice to know the birds are adapting to the area after the controlled burn!

Nice thinking i going vertical here. Killer background. Too bad the bird couldn't have moved up a couple inches for you.
