Field Sparrow

Yesterday afternoon at a local wildlife preserve I noticed a few different types of sparrows flying low in front of me along a field drainage cut. Captured this cutie, with feathers pushed out to keep warm. C&C welcome.

Lovely little birds. Nice look at the feet.
Bird looks nice but I am not loving the crop you chose.
I would evict the OOF branches and make this a 5 x 7 .
I woulsd also sharpen the face and eyes a bit more,

Hi Geoff, nice eye contact, and nicely framed between the two OOF branches. I agree with Gail to try a better crop.

Love the stare, and the good detail on the fluffed-up breast. Do you have any side shots of him? I ask because over the past week or two there has been a group of 7 or 8 American Tree Sparrows in the spot you describe. That species has a central breast spot such as your bird shows, which is lacking in the Field Sparrow; but the Tree Sparrow has a pretty distinctive bi-colored bill which I'm not seeing well here. In any event, a cute little fellow. I agree with Gail's crop and clone suggestions, and maybe a touch of brightness.

The head on stare is very nice. The branch on the right is not the best. Diaganol perch is nice as well.

Thanks Bill. That dark area in the breast feathers is misleading. When he pushed his feathers out it created a shaded indent. I have other shots where it's almost completely without. Speaking of the American Tree Sparrow, I also saw and have a few images, bi-colored bill to boot, but in the same tree surrounded by the trunk and branches. A lifer for me.
