Looks like Canon are bringing out a new camera...the R5 and a number of lenses including a 100-500 f/4.5-7.1 L IS. Maybe giving Sony a run for its money? but f/7.1 at the long end? comments/thoughts?

Odd specs for sure with that f/7.1 at the long end. It better perform if they want people to have confidence in a f/7.1 lens, especially an "L" series one at that. I'm sure the price will be way better than if it was an f/5.6 lens. I suppose it's not worse that a 100-400 + 1.4 TC that would give you 560mm at f/8, but with no TC to lug around. Will it be f/5.6 at 400mm? Not convinced it will be. Not a lens I'd personally want, but still curious to see the first reviews that will come out once released.

Hi Daniel. Glad I'm not rushing into a new purchase yet. Still unhappy with the overall 7Dii/100-400 for bif (great for static and slow flying birds)...the af tracking lets me done. Almost decided on the Sony A9/200-600 combo...after considering the Nikon D500 and a suitable lens...decisions decisions! Now I'll wait and see what Canon does...I guess their executives want to give Sony a kick in the a#%...lol
