Very nice kiss of light on the head. I would have come down 1/3 stop to f/8 and dropped shutter to 1/1000 (2/3 stop) to lose a full stop of noise and gain a full stop of detail.

Agree with Dorian re the camera settings. You could try lifting the shadows on the lower part of the bird, and the perch, but keep an eye on the noise level. It is a nice pose and you got some nice detail on the bird and perch. Lovely coloured BG.

I completely agree with those suggestions. I hope experience will help me with those real time decisions.

Nicw of the bird to perch right on top of the perch like that. Like how the head is in that sweet light.

Great subject on top of what seems to be a nice perch. Bummer the light was not on the whole hawk and perch - that would have been too sweet. Did you think of taking some verticals, time permitting?

yes thought of vertical, bird was on the move, didn't get a chance.
