This pair was imaged last summer. The chick is 12 days old, and about ready to lose his free bus pass!

D4. 600mm f/4 at f/4.5. 1/400. ISO 450. Taken from my little boat, Loonatic.

Post , added canvas on right, cleaned up a couple of spots in the water.

Advice and comments always appreciated.

Cheers

Ha, what a happy passenger, like your boat name. I have colleague in Norway just brought a 800mm to shoot these, maybe cheaper option is to buy a boat.
Is the bird horizontal, does it need tilting?

Another Loon winner Randy, that's one seriously productive setting you have there! Great to see the details in the bigger than normal chick, and, as ever, the ultra low POV is a huge bonus

Love the foggy morning setting. The chick does look a bit large for a free ride.

I love me a foggy loon.
Man, that kid is a big bruiser to still be on Momma's back!
Best part of this image is the seamless transition from the BG to the FG.

Of course I like the loons! Did not mean to imply the loons were not!:S3:

Great loon frame. Like the mood to this one. Nice low angle. Framing is right on as well.

I have never had the chance to see this behavior so I am very envious of this beautiful frame. Soft light really helped you keep the whites. I would give the image a touch of CCW rotation, and I think it could be warmed as well. It is very cold as is.

Thanks Dorian:

I did rotate it once, but will hit it again, He was swimming at a slight angle in the frame, so can be deceiving. The coolness was a conscious choice, as it was a cool and foggy morning.
