I just got an MP65E and ring flash. I live in the country and red wasps get in the house from time to time. If I see them I let them out. If I don't, they die. This one I didn't see however it was kind enough to sit still and let me practice with my new lens and flash (because it was dead). The lens requires a little work and a lot of technique. Hopefully I'll some day improve the latter which will lessen the former. This is a one and only shot, luck counts, image... If anyone has followed my Yellowjacket posts you might be wondering if I have shot those with this lens yet. Yes I have. I captured a few images at 1X. I tried at 2X but frankly, especially without a focusing rail system (had to move the tripod to focus), I ran out of cajones and couldn't make myself push the setup in any closer than the 1X distance of about 4". We'll see how it goes tomorrow.

Thats getting up close and personal Michael!! The MP65 opens up a whole new world!!
The area of sharp focus centred on the eye would have worked best for me rather than the base of its antenna.
looking forward to more macros with your new lens!!

Thanks John. The lens is an incredible macro tool and I'm just now learning how to use it. When I get a focusing rail I should be able to improve my ability to focus. I had to bump my tripod around to get what I have above. I only took one shot but it took almost 20 minutes to get everything right.

Hey John, very cool image and a focusing rail will really help out with this magnification.

Image is sharp but would like to see this one as a horiz. I find the MPE65 almost impossible to use in the real world due to the almost non existent working distance. But they are fun in a studio set up.
