The array of fish the Nickerson skimmers caught during my visit was simple astounding: killie minnows, bunker/menhaden, silversides, pipefish, and needlefish (shown here).
This was a very large example, and several birds pursued the carrier in hopes of separating the predator from its prey. The fish was dropped on one occasion - hence the sand
on it - but ultimately delivered to hungry young.

Dorian, Nice shot, exposure, angle and BG look good, prey is a nice bonus.
We were pretty much skimmer less this year.

Classic skimmer with prey. Love that green grass background. Composition looks dead on.

Great details and composition. I like the background with (I assume) sandy areas in the grass.

Ditto all the positives above. The three white streaks in front of the bird bug me a bit. It is very, very rare to see them with a needlefish without sand :)

How about baby Bluefish?

Another great sun angle photo... You really worked that beach nicely..
IQ is so good you could crop even tighter for an alternate close-up look it appears.

you;ve been getting some really nice frames at the beach. love the prey covered with sand, pose and the beautiful BG. If mine I'd reduce the green cast on the whites
