When I stalked this grebe at my local haunt, I had no real way of getting close even though I was standing on a platform about five feet below the river water level. I attempted to capture the bird in a way to illustrate the open water habitat upon which it spends its life. I am not quite sure by the grebe being rather small that the image is appealing though. I am almost certain this is a young adult.

30D, 300/4 L IS + 1.4x, ISO400, f/8 @ 1/1250th. Cropped to this format.

It does have a kind of appeal to it. I just wish the head wasn't in the dark band between water and the shore.

I like the idea and angle. It would be even stronger if the grebe would stand out a bit more.

I like the light and the waves and the background but Jim Poor nailed the big problem (and there is not much that you could do about it...)

Later and love, artie

Hi Akos,
I've captured this grebe many times. This specie is quite small and hard to get close to. Your preferred dark tone creates a mysterious atmosphere to the picture. You could try brighter tone as well : it might look interesting too...
