These large fishing spiders often inhabit cypress trees that are completely surrounded by water. They sit motionless and then pounce on unsuspecting prey, such as this dragonfly, with astonishing speed. In this version I pulled back a bit to include more of the environment.

30D, 300f4, extension tubes, 1.6 sec, f16, iso 100, MLU, remote release

Hi David,
Great action story..........I really like the environs also.. except for the brighter geen foilag at the top.......but there was nothing you could do about that. I think just the color of the spider and how well he blends in with the bark of the tree work against you as far as color impact............but the exposure and everything else are right on..

I like your composition including the spider's habitat - maybe a tad off the bottom would strengthen the image further.

Awesome David. I wouldnt change a thing the sharpness and exp are right on. As a minor note I would take some off the top right to right above the white flower.
