Commonly Redhead, perched warming on a cold early morning on a stem of a weed called Farmer's Friends because the seeds have small barbs that get into clothes (or animal fur) and get dispersed.
1DXII 600mm F/4L III plus 1.4X III 840mm 1/800 iso800 HH
Cropped for composition, one errant starburst of seed removed. Light sharpen in CC2019 PS

Attractive little bird and I like the perch a lot.
A bit over sharpened to my eyes...

Agree with Dan, just over the crunchy over sharpened line, love the bird and fab perch

It has a slight crunchy appearance to me also. The dark plumage could be persuaded to reveal some detail. I like the pose and perch.

Yes it looks pretty cruncy. But what a neat looking bird. Interesting perch and a nice background as well.

Thanks for the comments. Here it is as is from the camera with no additional sharpening. Perhaps I need to get used to this new very sharp lens!

Now the repost looks blurry. Is the RAW tack sharp?
No amount of sharpening will fix that.
The PP just seems off to me.
You have a great bird and I love the perch.
Any more from this series?
Gail

Yes Gail the raw is sharp, I may be ruining it with my saving for web. Ill check that out. Yes I do have another with the opposite head turn which I will post later.
Edit: one thing wrong, I have been saving for web from a jpeg. My bad!

Awesome bird and perch (and BG too). Looks like you are onto the sharpening issues mentioned...
