I sat still in a patch of seaweed for long enough that the parents and chick all became accustomed to me, and hopped around practically at my feet. From Flatey Island.

D500, Sigma 150-600C @ 550mm, ISO 2000, 1/2500s @ f/7.1 manual. HH.

I assume this was not shot with sun behind the back, was this a cloudy day ?

I have not seen an immature of this species, so this is a nice capture of something different. However, I think the lack of color really hurts this image; there's nothing that really cracks and grabs my eye (minus the tiny yellow beak). I'd also like to see more of the rock, and that would hep move the bird higher in the frame and command more attention. Right now it feels bottom/right heavy.

What a sweetie-pie.
I like the monochromatic feel very much with just that tiny bit of color on bill and lichens.
Yes to being a bit more to the left but still a lovely frame as presented.

Thank you all for your comments. Krishna, you are correct in assuming the sun was not at my back. As Geoffrey rightly noted, it was above and to the side. I did some s/h, dodging and burning to partially mitigate it. As I recall it was muted sun.
