These birds often heard but not seen, and they are really hard to photograph, due to the fact that they are extremely active around the rainforest undergrowth. I spent around 40 minutes listening to them, and getting a glimpse or two. However, they don't stay long enough on a branch to get a good photo. I guess I got lucky with this shot despite not getting the tail. I have other full shots but with quite distracting branches etc.
Canon 7Dii, 100-400mm @ 241mm, 1/200th sec, f5.6, iso400 in AV mode, hand-held.

Love the look back, fully extended crest and the glassy eye. You handled the dappled light well and I don't miss the tail. TFS

The birds you photograph have the coolest names. Neat looking bird. That raised crest is mega. Sounds like you did pretty well for a bird that is hard to see.

Thanks so much David & John. I'll be revisiting the locality again soon...so may get more chances.
