Where is that salmon ...?

Hi folks sorry for another bear image ...did not see Alex posting one , too .
But this was taken on the other end of the world .... depending on where you look from ...LOL .
Image taken at Kuril Lake at one river mouth .... conditions were not good , for bears and photographers . Lots of water , rain so visibility was low . The bears were trying hard to chase the salmons around , in hope they become visible . Some of the bears seemed to run around without any plan .... just running and jumping from time to time . Others had a more sophisticated technique , they waited that one bear caught one and just stole it .... LOL !!!!

I know the second bear is not ideal .... but no way to avoid him

F 6,3 ; Iso 4000 ; 1/2000 sec ; man exp and Auto Iso

Processed with DPP and PSCC 2019 ; slight crop for levelling .... edits made to achieve a reflective look & feel of the scene. In fact in real life it was way more flat ....

Nice pose on the bear love that splashing water and the rain. I usaually don't mind other animals in the frame but that other bear bothers me with this one. Not much you could have done. Very nice overall.

I really like this one, I get a real feeling of presence, your processing is just wonderful, the bear in the background doesn't bother me one bit, my attention was on the bear's head, neck and shoulders - as I said super processing.

This works well for me Boetie, good thinking on techs and nice framing, love the pose/excitement from the bear and water splash.

Enjoyed reading the story too, I gather all the "running around without any plan" must have a reason...Like, creating a bit of havoc down below, thus causing the salmon to surface :bg3:

Very nice detail in that wet fur and colours look good, would have loved to see that splash when the subject landed back into the water - have you got more from this sighting?

Hi Andreas, I like this image a lot. Good action and super details and PP work even at 4000 ISO. Well done. The OOF bear at the back is not too distracting and the framing works well.

Your processing has always been amazing Andreas but it's your timing and framing that I find wonderful here. I love the front paws lifting the water. The splash from the forearms just adds so much. Too me it seems beautifully sharp Andreas It's a killer image.

I know what the' bear is doing from TV and I can see and read the story from your image ,even though I've never seen a bear,in the wild.

It utterly works for me Andreas.:5 Your note about it was much flatter in real life relative to how one can manipulate an image creatively is something I ponder often

Great to see a bear from the other side of the world -- very cool how different they can look regionally. Very cool setting with the rain and love the pose on the bear as well as detail captured. The splash is great. Other bear is what it is, and seems somewhat unavoidable in this location. The 200-400 with the built in extender seems like an amazing tool. TFS

Hi Andreas - This is very nicely done. Excellent details and PP work and I liked the jumping pose. Too bad for that Bear in the BKG but surely nothing you could have done abt it except for a very meticulous cloning work. I would have liked some more space in the direction it is heading in. Nice field work and image as well .

Being side on to the sensor was beneficial in capturing the image Andreas. Colours reflect the climate, just feel it needs a tad more above and a little to the LHS, just a fraction big in frame for my tastes.

I love the splashing action, and the paws raised just above the water. Great low angle too. A bit tight above, so I would not be against a touch more room above (and left to retain the ratio). The second bear should be easy to remove by first masking the far leg and foot, but still OK as posted.
