Taken about 20 minutes after the photo of the Green Heron I posted yesterday.
I stood in the same spot to take both.
I have the best bird pond in the country, I swear!
A resident breeding pair with chicks in the nest right now.
Pacific northwest low morning cloud cover..

I have about 10 or 12 decent frames from this dive but at iso6400 I really
struggle with the white balance. I processed this and processed a few others and
I got the original off I believe.
It was gray flat light and the Eagle was diving against trees.
Does this look better?
I am there almost everyday, I should know but....

First up, its (another) lovely frame, nice action with the stare from the bird. The first is pretty close to being bang on for me, the second has a yellow cast. I took the first and had a play and using the WB pipette on the bright whites on the head only gave a very small alteration, slightly warmer and with a tiny touch extra of magenta tint.

I think you did really well with the light conditions you had. Pretty clean for ISO 6400. As you say the light is flat. I don't know if you can lighten up inner wings on both sides tiny bit to bring out the detail but you could have a lot of noise in that space.]

The pose is great and the composition is spot on. Details look very nice for the low light.
