EOS R EF 400DO I 2xtc II f11 1/1300 ISO 1600
As stated in last post, I took along 800mm to try for more intimate views of the GBH feeding. In last post, as I just discovered, mom was not getting brief rest when raising head. She is filling her crop with regurgitant (yummy). So when mom raises head I put the focus box on lore/bill and try to stay there till I see chicks begin to enter frame. Mash the button, spray about 10 frames. Rinse and repeat. This is full frame. This was very near sunset.
Thanks for two major learnings on post processing (not near done with learning in this area yet). Arash and later Jonathan led me to discovery, for the EOS R, the lum and chr adjustments in DPP are very destructive (have no idea why). So, NI is used for all noise reduction, if any.
Second, when you finally do get beautiful detail, the downsize for web in PS is destructive and adds artifacts. This is especially true for very fine feather detail like the neck feathers of a GBH. This graininess is not due to over sharpening but the down size for sure. I do not see it at all, even in a full size JPG when sharpened. Just fantastic detail. So second learning (and apparently controversy stirring as well) was from Isaac. Converting to highest quality JPG sharpening and then down sizing and sharpening again mitigates much of this issue, but not all. Isaac's process does not over sharpen as you think it would. So, If this image is over sharpened it is because I went too far in the final sharpening settings. Also, mama is right square with sensor as is the chick to the right (mostly). The middle chick is falling out of the DOF as you go toward the neck. With 800mm and being fairly close to this nest, f11 was not enough to get it all(but I only need the eyes).
